Cement

Cement production is very energy intensive, there is great pressure to optimize grinding to reduce variability and increase throughput whilst reducing over-grinding.

Rheology can provide useful information on the curing of cements.

Analysis of the particle size and shape of cement is necessary to understand, monitor and control:

  • The 28 day strength of the product. Too many fines (<2 microns) and the cement sets too hot and cracks, too many coarse particles and the strength is adversely affected. Optimizing the amount between 2 and 32 microns is key.
  • The shape of cement particles influences how particles pack when used and will affect the final strength.
  • The specific surface area of the product more accurately and reproducibly than traditional Blaine methods.

Malvern offers laboratory, automated laboratory and process solutions used in controlling and optimizing the grinding of cement.
